This inaugural podcast featured a reading of \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.academia.edu\/30006930\/Decolonizing_the_Roots_of_Rape_Culture_reflections_on_consent_sexual_violence_and_university_campuses\">Decolonizing the Roots of Rape Culture<\/a>,\u201d a paper by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/fnis.arts.ubc.ca\/persons\/sarah-hunt\/\">Dr. Sarah Hunt<\/a>\u00a0(Kwakwaka\u2019wakw Nation), Assistant Professor, <a href=\"http:\/\/fnis.arts.ubc.ca\/\">First Nations &amp; Indigenous Studies<\/a>\/<a href=\"http:\/\/www.geog.ubc.ca\/\">Geography<\/a> at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ubc.ca\/\">University of British Columbia<\/a>\u00a0and a <a class=\"expresscurate_contentTags\" href=\"https:\/\/twospiritjournal.com\/?tag=two-spirit\">#Two-Spirit<\/a> scholar.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"float: left; margin: 0px 7px 7px 0px;\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/296381011&amp;auto_play=false&amp;hide_related=false&amp;show_comments=true&amp;show_user=true&amp;show_reposts=false&amp;visual=true\" width=\"100%\" height=\"450\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn talking about sexual violence on university and college campuses, it is important to me as a Two-Spirit person to integrate a discussion of the role gender and sexuality have in Indigenous identity and culture, as well as in processes of colonization,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/fnis.arts.ubc.ca\/persons\/sarah-hunt\/\">Dr. Hunt <\/a>said to the <a href=\"https:\/\/twospiritjournal.com\">TwoSpiritJournal<\/a>. \u201cTo me, you can\u2019t talk about sexual violence without talking about the imposition of colonial norms around gender and sexuality, including the attempted erasure of Two-Spirit people. In this talk, I aim to centre Indigenous self-determination, talking about consent over our bodies and lands as interrelated with our ability to express, name and reclaim our roles as Indigenous people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According <a href=\"http:\/\/emmatalks.org\/info\/\">EMMA talks\u2019<\/a> website, \u201cThe core purpose of <a href=\"http:\/\/emmatalks.org\/info\/\">EMMA talks <\/a>is to bring important stories by women identified* writers, activists, thinkers, storytellers, makers and doers, from the periphery to the public.
