While many others turned in via the livestreaming of the lecture. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe American Indian Resource Center at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/\">Bemidji State University<\/a> strives to promote inclusion and diversity, so people can be themselves,\u201d said Bill Blackwell Jr., Executive Director of American Indian Resource Center at Bemidji State University. \u201cThis <a class=\"expresscurate_contentTags\" href=\"https:\/\/twospiritjournal.com\/?tag=two-spirit\">#Two-Spirit<\/a> presentation, by Arnold Dahl, certainly assisted us in achieving that goal. As someone who has several members in my family who identify as Two-Spirit, I took extra pride in having this discussion on our campus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Blackwell continued, \u201cSome of the high points from Monday\u2019s talk were Arnold sharing his personal story as an Ojibwe who came out and how his family perceived it. Arnold did a great job of taking us through the Two-Spirit history: pre-contact, post-contact, and today\u2019s context and also did an amazing job with giving suggestions for what could be done by allies who are friends, teachers, and administrators.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Arnold and his partner Matthew hold the honor of the first same-sex\/Two-Spirit couple to be recognized by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.llojibwe.org\/\">Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bemidjipioneer.com\/content\/arnold-and-matthew-partners-life-gay-couple-weds-leech-lake-indian-reservation\">were married on the reservation in 2013<\/a>. Arnold is an advocate and works for and with the LGBTQ and Two-Spirit community as well as serves as <a href=\"http:\/\/lltc.edu\/board-of-trustees\/\">Board Chair<\/a> for <a href=\"http:\/\/lltc.edu\/\">Leech Lake Tribal College.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/\">Bemidji State University<\/a>, located in northern Minnesota\u2019s scenic lake district, occupies a wooded campus along the shore of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lake_Bemidji\">Lake Bemidji<\/a>. A member of the colleges and universities of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mnscu.edu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Minnesota State<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Bemidji State offers more than 80 undergraduate majors and 11 graduate degrees encompassing arts, sciences and select professional programs. Bemidji State has an enrollment of more than 5,100 students and a faculty and staff of more than 550.
