Marie Art Gallery, is hosting a closing reception of their current exhibition,\u00a0<em><strong>Visiting<\/strong><\/em>, features the work of young Indigenous women and <a class=\"expresscurate_contentTags\" href=\"https:\/\/twospiritjournal.com\/?tag=two-spirit\">#Two-Spirit<\/a> artists. Featured artists Shelby Gagnon, Roxanne Martin, Samantha Pine-Bennett, and Rihkee Strapp will have a variety of works on display including painting, sculptural works and prints.<\/p>\n<p>The closing reception will take place on Friday, Nov. 22, 7 &#8211; 9 p.m., at 180 Projects at 180 Gore St. Sault Ste. Marie, ON. This evert is free and open for all to attend. Light refreshments will be served.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals, who require or have questions about accessibility to this gallery space that is a semi-accessible space are asked to contact the gallery directly at <a href=\"mailto:oneeightprojects@gmail.com\">oneeightprojects@gmail.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According curatorial statement: \u201c<em><strong>Visiting<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0is a deliberate act of sharing physical place or holding space to create and strengthen new and long-standing connections.\u00a0<em><strong>Visiting<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0is also putting on tea, nurturing, laughing, and hosting with intention \u2013 doing things tenderly, even if it takes longer. Likewise, this exhibition offers an extended meeting. The artists\u2019 voices converse with one another, steeping together to create new narratives that present expressions of identity and contemporary and traditional practices and ways of knowing.<\/p>\n<p>Baawaating has been a meeting place for Indigenous people since time immemorial. This exhibition, which brings together works by local and visiting young Indigenous women and two-spirit artists, carries that tradition.\u00a0<em>Visiting<\/em>\u00a0invites guests to stay a while and consider what you may bring in terms of energy or intention to this space, place and gathering.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(Sault Ste.
